01 Οκτ United Democrats intervention at the Ledra Palace meeting of Leaders of Political Parties, on 28th September 2016
The Cyprus problem has to be resolved by the current generation, so that we can hand over a problem free, and promising country to the younger generations of Cypriots.
This was the message of TDP, the hosting Party at last Wednesday’s meeting of the Leaders of Greek Cypriot & Turkish Cypriot political Parties at Ledra Palace.
United Democrats suggested that there are always ways to resolve differences, once political will is present. We furthermore indicated that, as it is generally acknowledged, Anastasiades & Akinci are two Leaders who are sincerely working for Reunification and if an agreement is not reached under these two leaders, then the moment will be lost and any other solution reached later will be a different solution, under different circumstances, for different people.
Instead of antagonism what is really needed is an approach of co-operation. Whenever a step towards further agreement is reached between the two leaders, political parties in both communities should hail such a step of progress as a gain and as a victory of all the Cypriots, not as a victory of one community over the other.
Concerning differences on the International aspect of the problem, a more enhanced role of the European Union could be sought, since Cyprus and all the Cypriots are members of the European Union.
